Ultrasound Therapy is a treatment modality that utilizes high or low frequency sound waves (those above the range we hear) to help ease painful joints and muscles. An ultrasound machine transmits these sound waves to the surrounding tissue and vasculature. They penetrate the body and produce deep tissue/muscle warming and relaxation - suitable for treating muscle tightness and spasms. The warming effect also causes vessel vasodilatation and increased circulation that assists in healing. The therapist can also adjust sound wave frequencies to decrease inflammation.

Ultrasound Therapy is one of the best forms of heat treatment for soft tissue injuries. It can relieve pain and inflammation, speed healing, reduce muscle spasms and increase range of motion. We use ultrasound primarily as an adjunct treatment for the treatment of joint and muscle sprains, bursitis, and tendonitis. It is generally used in combination with other treatments such as Laser Therapy or Gua Sha Scrapping.

Treatment is given with a sound-head that is moved gently in strokes or circles over the injured area. It lasts just a few minutes. The procedure may be performed with the sound-head alone or combined with a topical anti-inflammatory drug or gel.
