Microcurrent is a great adjunct to Osteopathic Manipulation and Acupuncture. It is often added to many of the therapies that are performed at my clinic because of it's ability to accelerate the healing process. Treatments take only 10 to 20 minutes to complete. They are painless and often result in immediate relief after each session. Microcurrent is a great adjunct therapy to reduce post treatment soreness especially for sensitive people who sore easily after hands-on manipulation.

Microcurrent was first discovered when astronauts returning from zero gravity space were suffering from a significant level of muscle and bone mass loss.  Research revealed that the body produces an “electrical micro current” in response to the gravitational forces of the earth. In zero gravity though, this electrical micro current is greatly diminished. Scientists developed an instrument to artificially mimic this micro current so astronauts would not suffer from muscle and bone loss. However, to their great surprise, astronauts found that old injuries and physical problems were now being remedied by this new technology.  Thus was born Microcurrent Therapy.

The Acuscope and Myopulse
the Electro Acuscope and Myopulse systems are "feedback modulated" microcurrent modalities can be used for chronic and acute pain/trauma rehabilitation. These computerized systems work on ‘tissue repair’ by utilizing a carrier wave that does ‘tissue monitoring’. This “biofeedback” monitors tissue impedance to control the voltage and current waveforms to maximize the body’s own healing mechanisms.

What does it Treat?
The acuscope and myopulse will act on the subcutaneous tissue and neurological issues to reduce pain and inflammation. They will also improve blood flow in circulatory impaired tissues. Common treatments include connective tissue repair, associated primarily with muscle, sports injuries and scar tissue, and non-surgical facial rejuvenation (face lifts). Common ailments that can be addressed through microcurrent include:

  • Myofascial pain (trigger points)
  • Joint disorders and arthritis
  • Injured ligaments
  • Tendonitis and scar  tissue repair
  • Headaches / migraines
  • Chronic pain

Modern science now knows that Microcurrent Therapy has the ability to stimulate regeneration of injured nerves and soft tissue. Inside the cell, the mitochondria can be stimulated to produce more ATP (the energy of the cell) needed for cellular growth and repair. It also has the ability to reduce swelling and inflammation as well as cover-up both acute and chronic pain.
